Champ takes his job as protector of the flock seriously and will not let thing run a-fowl. When the chickens are out of the coop Champ watches the sky. Occasionally a big black bird circles so low that you can hear the wings beating the air. When this happens, Champ quietly circles the hens back into the coop and sits waiting by the door staring down the bird until it flies away.
Auli and Timber enjoyed some family time together at the Charlotte County Kennel Club Dog Show in New Brunswick. Timber (AKC CH, CKC GCh MapleMyst’s Chasing Waves in Fundy VE, ATD-M, ATD, HIC, AS) took Best of Breed this weekend, with Auli taking Best of Opposite with Evan, her owner and junior handler. Evan also won his Juniors class and got Second Best Overall with Auli (Ch MapleMyst's Heading for the Hill). Thank you to owners Isaac and Kaden, and Darcie and Evan, for blazing new trails and representing us in the East!
On June 29, at the Ste-Anne de la Perade show, Zyra became the first Finnish Lapphund in Canada to earn her CDX (Companion Dog Excellent) title under the CKC. To earn the CDX title, a dog must demonstrate proficiency in a variety of exercises, including retrieving, jumping, and following various commands, all while off-lead. Congratulations to Stéphanie and Zyra!
Bear is doing well in his new career in the hospitality industry. He is always happy to accompany his owner to work at lovely 4* hotel in downtown Montreal. During quieter times of the evening, he is at work behind the front desk or in the office, with his owner, and follows him off leash when they have to move around the hotel. He is a hit with guests and really enjoys getting attention from people! When they finish work at 7am, they always stop at the park for a run before heading home. Bear has adapted to his owners weekday sleep schedule, though he is able to maintain a more "normal" daytime routine on weekends. Bear is MapleMyst's Cinnamon Bear Paws, born in December 2024.
MapleMyst wishes Abby and Kelkka good luck as they prepare to represent Ontario at the CKC Junior Handling Nationals taking place in East St. Paul Manitoba on August 16! Abby has been handling Kelkka since her return to the show ring after a litter early last winter and the two of them are doing so well together. Kelkka is MapleMyst's Sledding Under a Pine Sky, bred by MapleMyst and owned by Manon Brisebois and Pattie Page.
