News and novelties fit for paw-blic consumption

News, big and small, tend to be fairly slow-going in a thoughtful activity such as canine breeding. We will nevertheless place here the interesting tidbits we feel you might like to know about, from time to time, regarding Maple Myst or breeding in general.

Our 20th Litter Is on the Way!

We are thrilled to share that our Zyra and the ever-charming Rookie have written a brand‑new chapter for us—our 20th MapleMyst litter, expected to make a grand entrance in the last week of April. Tiny paws and a whole lot of promise are on the horizon, and we couldn’t be more delighted.

Our heartfelt thanks go to all those who made this breeding possible. Owners Debbie and Stephanie, and Gloria of Shadagrace Finnish Lapphunds.

(All pups will go to homes on the MapleMyst waiting list).

MapleMyst’s Cast of Characters

>  2026-03-22

– Meet our Girls

In a quiet corner of the world, where the wind smells of cedar and the snow falls like soft confetti, there sits a small but magical place called MapleMyst. MapleMyst is a low‑density hobby kennel, where every dog shines, cherished, woven into our story like a beloved character.

Only three girls—Kiire, Aila, and Elki—live at MapleMyst full‑time, but many more bright, and beautiful Lappies join our tale through co‑ownership and special host homes. Together, they form a cast of heroines worthy of any northern legend.

Zyra the Trailblazer

In the land of performance rings and obedience trials, Zyra the wolfsable wonder shines brighter than any star. From our Grizz × Ruka litter, she became the #1 Obedience Lappy in Canada and the USA, a CKC Grand Champion, and a master of many sports. A litter is planned with her late this spring—an exciting new adventure for this shining star.

MAPLEMYST'S LEGENDARY ADVENTURE

Aila the Clown of MapleMyst

Back at the MapleMyst homestead lives Aila, brown and tan and bursting with sunshine. Also from the Grizz × Ruka litter, she is the resident clown, the “reverse‑therapy dog” who fixes calmness with chaos and turns every quiet moment into a giggle. A CKC Grand Champion who adores agility and sprinter events, Aila hopes to welcome her second litter before the end of 2026.

MAPLEMYST'S LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION

Sylvie, Bright as the City Lights

Far away in the bustling Toronto area lives Sylvie, the dark wolfsable beauty from Doux Berger in Québec, sired by our Finnigan. She is collecting points toward her CKC Championship, only attending shows occasionally in recent years.  Testing and a litter is planned with her in 2026. Elegant, spirited and a little mysterious, Sylvie brings a touch of sparkle to the MapleMyst tale. Sylvie’s test results will be posted on DOUX BERGER RAVEN IN THE MYST when testing is complete.

Kaya the Lightning Dancer

In the Ottawa region lives Kaya, a wolfsable whirlwind of talent. A CKC Grand Champion with an astonishing number of titles earned by her 2nd birthday. She was bred by Shadagrace in Winnipeg and is co-owned by MapleMyst and NorthLine kennels. Her father, Oscar, is a sibling to Zyra and Aila—proof that greatness runs in the family. Kaya is the kind of dog who seems to leave streaks of lightning behind her paws. SHADAGRACE MAPLE MYST DIAMOND IN THE RUFF

Coco the Gentle Outdoorsy Girl

From the Bandit × Kelkka litter comes Coco, living in the Ottawa area on co‑ownership. She is working toward her CKC Championship, loves sledding, and is training to become a therapy dog—soft heart, strong spirit. Coco has completed her genetic testing and will undergo full health screening after she turns 2 in November. She is part of our plans for 2027. Coco’s test results will be posted on MAPLEMYST'S PEPPERMINT AND HOT COCOA when testing is complete.

Chai the Quiet Healer

In Québec City lives Chai, from our Haldi × Aila litter. Calm, patient, and curiously barkless (despite being Aila’s daughter), she has begun earning CKC Championship points. She tested clear for genetic and eye diseases and will complete her health screenings when she turns 2 in December. Chai is a born therapy dog—gentle as warm tea on a winter morning. Chai’s test results will be posted on MAPLEMYST'S ICED CHAI LAPPÉ when testing is complete.

Elki the Baby of the Forest

Back at MapleMyst, a tiny new chapter is just beginning. Elki, born in the Fall 2025 from our Kivi × Kelkka litter, is still learning the ways of the world—how snow tastes, how toys squeak, how humans melt when she tilts her head. Genetically clear and full of promise, she will begin her show career when she turns 6 months old this spring. Elki’s test results will be posted on MAPLEMYST'S LIFE OF A SNOW GIRL when testing is complete.

Happy 10th Birthday, Charmed Litter!

>  2026-03-17

On March 17, Ruka, Taika, Usko, Elo, Loyal, and Myles celebrated a big milestone—10 wonderful years.

No green beer this St. Paddy’s Day, but this troupe of Finnish Rovers checked in to confirm they’re all living the good life. Whether working on the farm, doing therapy work, enjoying retirement from a busy show career, being a loyal companion or big-brother extraordinaire, every of this crew is a champion of their owners’ hearts. Here’s to ten years of purpose, partnership, and plenty of tail wags.

A visit to MapleMyst

Ashoka comes to see us with her family

On February 22nd, Ashoka returned to MapleMyst for a visit. Her family was in the Ottawa area for a tournament, and it seemed like a wonderful opportunity for a playdate with Elki, who turned 4 months yesterday. Ashoka is from our Cello X Teddy litter, and will be 2 years in May!

Anniversary of MapleMyst’s Very First Litter

Today marks a milestone that is close to our hearts. Eleven years ago, we welcomed our first litter into the world—a moment that quietly shaped the future of our kennel and the community that has grown around it.

Our thoughts are with the wonderful dogs who started it all: Mysti, Umiak and their little bunch - Ripley, Charlie, Maverick, Lumi, and our very own Kiire. Each one of them helped define what MapleMyst and our silly WhitePenn stories would become—joyful, whimsical and full of heart.

Kiire is celebrating her special day in true Kiire fashion: barn ratting with the MapleMyst home team, doing what she loves most and reminding us just how much spirit was packed into that first generation.

To all the families who have shared this journey with us since that very first litter, thank you. Here’s to the dogs who began it all, and to the many stories still ahead.

A Colorful Look at the Finnish Lapphund

>  2025-12-19

A wrap-up of our Holiday photo session

Our recent Finnish Lapphund photo shoot proved one thing beyond doubt: this breed was born for the camera. With dogs representing every shade—from inky black to warm brown, cream, and wolf sable—the session became a living palette of Lapphund charm.

The goal was simple: capture the spirit of the holidays for the families of this beautiful breed. As usual, the dogs did not disappoint, delivering everything from sit-stays to playful TopModel looks. Their easygoing nature and signature fluff made every frame feel effortless.

The final collection highlights the Lapphund’s versatility and spirit. Whether posed with props or sitting for group shots, each dog brought its own personality to the lens. One thing is certain: when it comes to stealing the spotlight, Finnish Lapphunds never miss their shot.
